NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A 36-year-old woman who set up a robbery that resulted in her boyfriend’s death has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison.

Raquel Johnson received the sentence during a re-sentencing exercise in the Court of Appeal.

Earlier this year, Johnson scored a partial victory when the appellate court quashed her convictions for the 2016 murder and armed robbery of her lover, Scott Richards, an announcer at ZNS radio.

Johnson lured Richards to Bonefish Pond, and had sex with him on the boardwalk, knowing that he would be robbed.

The Appeals Court replaced the armed robbery convicton with one of robbery.

Johnson was initially jailed for 10 years for the armed robbery and the Court of Appeal felt the same sentence was merited.

The sentence was reduced to seven and a half years after taking into account the time she’d spent on remand.

Justice of Appeal Indra Charles said Johnson had committed a breach of trust and was a willing participant in the crime.

She also tried to frame her ex-boyfriend by telling police that he had committed the shooting. The ex-boyfriend was arrested but released after his alibi checked out.

Richard Bevans was sentenced to 48 years the murder and 28 years for the armed robbery.

An appeal is still pending.
