Work In Progress: Major Work Being Done in the Family Islands

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – There are a lot of recently completed, ongoing, and upcoming works in our Family Islands, so we’ve put together this summary, based on our interview with Senior Engineer for the Family Islands David Cox.

So far, work has been recently completed or is ongoing across nine Family Islands including Bimini, Grand Bahama, Andros, Long Island, Abaco, Exuma, Great Harbour Cay, Eleuthera and Cat Island.

Four airports have recently completed works or have upcoming works planned.

There are approximately 11 roadworks projects recently completed, ongoing, or upcoming for a grand total of approximately 184.5 miles of roads across the islands getting attention.

There was one recently completed seawall project and there is also one upcoming extensive waterworks project spanning approximately 90 miles.

And contracts, including public private partnerships, amounting to approximately $98.5 million based on the numbers provided.

Cox also disclosed there are more major works expected for Long Island and Eleuthera coming soon, but those are still in the pipeline for now.
