NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The historic Straw Market in the heart of downtown remains a staple in the downtown experience and according to Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Works Bacchus Rolle, plans are underway to branch out to the Family Islands.

He revealed other islands on the horizon for the authority as well.

Rolle, who is also the Member of Parliament for South Beach, has oversight for the straw market.

He says they’ve been doing well since reopening seven days a week despite pushback to the idea.

Since the opening of the Nassau Cruise Port, downtown business owners and straw market vendors expressed concern that the new facility would take tourists away from exploring downtown and other businesses.

Rolle says officials from cruise port has agreed to assist the Straw Market with marketing.
