NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Works and Utilities Minister Alfred Sears detailing the cause of water supply issues in Eleuthera, after residents went seven days without water.

Amid ongoing water supply issues thats plagued Eleuthera residents for quite some time, Works and Utilities Minister Alfred Sears says the water desalination facility was not maintained or developed.

Sears says the storage tanks in Eleuthera are operating at capacity and is barely keeping up with the demand.

He’s also apologizing for the challenging times, adding that government will do whatever is necessary to fix the issue, even if that means a new company.

Recently, Eleuthera residents were without water for about seven days.

This picture made the rounds of WSC Chairman and North Eleuthera MP Sylvanus Petty handing out water amid the issue.

In an effort to correct the issue, sears says $2.7 million was approved to purchase storage tanks for the island.

They’re expected to arrive in four months. Additionally, two tanks will be constructed.

Central and South Eleuthera MP Clay Sweeting has called that island’s water woes totally unacceptable and extremely frustrating.

Meanwhile, the Works and Utilities Minister says the land has been secured, but there’ve run into some challenges.

Sears explains that these tanks can relieve the challenges.
