NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Bright colours, bold Bahamian flavours and local music were on full display as the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture partnered with the Ministry of Education to host a 242 Day pop-up event.

Cultural Officer Anja Bowe says the event was designed to highlight Bahamian vendors and strengthen national pride, featuring straw work, sauces, teas and traditional dishes.

Beverly Turnquest, owner of Through the Pages bookstore, says the initiative also promotes Bahamian storytelling and folklore for young readers.

Small business owners, including Angie of Angie’s Delightful Teas, say the event provides valuable exposure and supports healthier lifestyle options.

Organizers hope to make the celebration an annual tradition.
