NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Nearly 12,000 Bahamians got food assistance in October, according to Social Services Minister Obie Wilchcombe.

Wilchcombe says the official number is 11,700, while close to 90 families are receiving housing assistance, and nearly 200 in health assistance.

The news came as Wilchcombe was contributing to a resolution to increase minimum wage by $50 per week.

In recent months consumers have watched rising inflation and increasing power bills.
