NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A 15-year-old was found with a high-powered weapon recently according to Police Commissioner Clayton Fernander.

The teen was arrested and charged with having a high-powered weapon in his possession with the intent to take someone’s life.

Police Commissioner Clayton Fernander revealed as much, adding that police saw an uptick in high-powered rifles on the streets.

His comments came during a press briefing about 2022 crime stats where he revealed an increase in high-powered weapons.

Fernander said the high schooler appeared to be very angry.

The Police Commissioner said an off-duty police officer followed the youngster and found the weapon but the officer was unarmed.

The teen was charged, but that’s not where it ended.

He said the child comes from a single-parent home and the Department of Social Services is working with the child’s family.

Fernander revealed that 370 firearms were taken off the streets in 2022, compared to the 377 in 2021.
Research also revealed that the weapons were traced to multiple offenses.
