A 17-year-old who just graduated high school died in a car accident in Abaco on Monday night, leaving friends and family grieving.

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A 17-year-old who just graduated high school died in a car accident in Abaco on Monday night.

Jared Higgs spoke to the victim’s grandmother.

The 17-year-old traffic fatality victim in Dundas Town Abaco is Shenna Tervil according to the teenager’s grieving grandmother.

Thervil’s grandmother, 64-year-old Laverne Maynard, says the teenager’s friends came to their home crying last night, insisting that they go to the clinic to check on Shenna who had just crashed.

According to police, the 17-year-old tried was driving at on George Albury Blvd at a high rate of speed and tried to overtake another vehicle. That’s when she lost control and was ejected from her vehicle.

She was taken to the Marsh Harbour Clinic where she died.

Our News spoke to the grieving grandmother, who lives in Abaco, over the phone.

She last saw her granddaughter late Monday afternoon.

Just days earlier, the family celebrated the 17-year-old’s graduation from Patrick J. Bethell High School.

She had dreams of being a cosmetologist and she leaves behind three siblings – one older and two younger.

Maynard described her granddaughter as a friendly and affectionate girl.

Tributes poured in on Facebook for Thervil with many remembering her as a girl with potential to do great things.

Her grandmother just wishes she could see her again.
