NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Some jitney drivers were upset Wednesday after receiving just a 25-cents increase on bus fares. 

This is the first increase in bus fares in 16 years. 

The 25-cent increase will not be straight across the board as it will only impact adult passengers. Their fare will now be $1.50. 

Fares for seniors and school students will remain the same.   

Understanding the need for the increase this passenger says it’s only fare. 

While some might consider this a step in the right direction this jitney driver says otherwise…

The average cost of gas per gallon in New Providence is $5.90.

General Secretary for Bahamas United Bus Drivers Union Corvel Colebrooke says it’s not enough to sustain them.
