UNITED STATES – Two Bahamian baseball players are entering free agency, but Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Kristian Robinson find themselves in two very different positions as they look toward the 2027 season.

Chisholm is back on the open market after three seasons with the New York Yankees, and one of the most important developments is that the club chose not to extend him a qualifying offer.

That offer was valued at $23.15 million for one season. Had the Yankees extended it and Chisholm declined, any team signing him would have been subject to draft-pick compensation.

By not making the offer, the Yankees have allowed Chisholm to enter free agency without that attachment, which could make him more attractive to teams considering a multi-year contract.

The decision comes after a down year at the plate. Chisholm played 137 games in 2026, batting .231 with 19 home runs, 55 RBI’s and 41 stolen bases.

That followed his 2025 season, when he became the first Yankee second baseman to record a 30-home run, 30-stolen BASE season.

He also found himself out of the starting lineup for two postseason games, including the Yankees’ season-ending game three against Tampa Bay.

Despite the disappointing offensive numbers, Chisholm remains a two-time All-Star with power, speed and defensive value at second base.

He has also indicated that he would welcome a return to New York.

Meanwhile, Kristian Robinson has elected minor-league free agency after spending the 2026 season with the Arizona Diamondbacks’ Triple-A affiliate, the Reno Aces.

Robinson’s journey has been a long one. Signed by Arizona out of The Bahamas in 2017 for $2.5 million, he was once considered one of the organization’s top prospects.

His development was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic and a personal and legal crisis that kept him out of competitive baseball for nearly four years.

He returned to the minor leagues in 2023 and has worked his way back through the organization.

The 25-year-old has spent the last two seasons reaching and playing at triple-A. In 2025, split between double-A Amarillo and Reno, he hit .254 with 17 home runs, 60 RBI’s and 34 stolen bases over 116 games.

In 41 games with Reno that season, he batted .262 with six home runs, 22 RBI’s and a .862 OPS.

This past season, Robinson played 116 games with the Aces, hitting .268 with 15 home runs, 60 RBI’s and 22 stolen bases.

He also posted a .373 on-base percentage and .815 OPS.

After eight years in professional baseball, Robinson now has the opportunity to explore a new organization and continue his pursuit of a major league debut.
