NASSAU, BAHAMAS – On this day in Bahamian history in 1985, The New York Times published an article about patients of a clinic in Grand Bahama receiving a drug contaminated with an aids-related virus. 

The article claimed patients at the clinic were exposed to aids and hepatitis and that the Ministry of Health ordered the agency to close although no aids cases were reported as a result of the treatment.

Then in 2018, North Andros suffered a blackout after a fire broke out at a Bahamas Power and Light unit on the island. 

The incident happened after another unit went down the night before at BPL’s Clifton Pier plant in Nassau.

Then August 9th, 2022, there was a fire at The International Bazaar on Grand Bahama.

A huge portion of the shopping and entertainment center was fully engulfed in flames and due to the high winds that day, the fire spread to nearby structures.

And finally, on the same day in 2022, 4 Bahamians were caught in the seizure of nearly 1 million dollars in the Dominican Republic. 

The men and one Haitian woman were arrested after Dominican authorities said they saw a suspicious profile in the luggage of one of their checked bags. 

After a manual check, authorities said they found nearly 880,000 dollars.
