More CCTV Cameras Needed

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – More help is needed from the public to solve crimes, and that includes providing surveillance footage, according to National Security Minister Wayne Munroe. He says unfortunately many Bahamians refuse to turn over footage and sometimes even delete it.

It’s a problem the National Security Minister says police stumbled upon during investigations; residents declining to cooperative with police to provide surveillance footage that could be used to identify what happened and who’s responsible. He says in many instances, they delete them./p>

One of the more recent incidents was the triple murder that occurred over the weekend where three men were shot while sitting on a porch near the Centerville area.

Munroe says in launching that investigation, police found that people who have cameras and possibly caught the incident on video are reluctant to help.

Munroe says he’s going to Cabinet to discuss how best CCTV coverage across The Bahamas can be expanded. CCTV footage has helped police to solve several murders recently. However, Munroe says there are more cases that can be closed with the public’s help.
