NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Free National Movement Chairman Dr. Duane Sands says the recent relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions is clear discrimination against Bahamian businesses.

Berthony McDermott tells us that Dr Sands believes the rules are biased, and warning, the world has yet to see the end of the pandemic.

His comments come after Health Minister Dr. Michael Darville announced Saturday that face masks are no longer mandatory while in a hotel lobby, corridor, casino, of a hotel.

The Former Elizabeth MP questioned the rationale behind the decision.

According to the rules released on Saturday, masks are no long mandatory at outdoor events once there are at least three feet of distance between attendees.

Additionally, individuals with specific medical conditions are not required to wear a mask once a medical certificate confirming the condition is provided.

Private indoor social gatherings can also be held with up to 75% capacity. All attendees must be fully vaccinated or present a negative COVID-19 test.

Dr Sands echoed similar sentiments shared by FNM leader Michael Pintard, which is that the official opposition has been shut out of COVID-19 briefings.

The Davis administration also announced Family Island regattas and the possibility of Junkanoo in December.

In recent weeks, The Bahamas recorded record lows in daily COVID-19 infections.

Health and Wellness Minister Dr Darville previously said that once numbers remained low, relaxed restrictions would follow.

But this isnt the first time the country saw relatively low cases before a spike in case.

The Former Health Minister warns The Bahamas has not seen the end of the pandemic yet.
