NORTH CAROLINA, USA – What began as a routine trip for Bahamas Vice Consul Duron Saunders quickly turned into a life-threatening ordeal when Hurricane Helene suddenly shifted course, leaving him stranded in North Carolina as the storm unleashed devastation.

Saunders, who is based in Atlanta, had traveled to North Carolina just before the storm hit, unaware that Helene would take a sudden turn.

The damage in parts of North Carolina was catastrophic, with entire communities wiped out by flooding.

In the aftermath, the Bahamian Consulate sprang into action, reaching out to Bahamians in the affected areas, especially students and residents.

The Foreign Affairs official urging all Bahamians living in the U.S. to register with their local consulate so they can receive crucial updates in times of crisis.
