UNITED STATES – Some good news for travelers to and from the U.S. as the Department of Transportation implementing new regulations requiring airlines to automatically refund cash for canceled or significantly delayed flights.

On wednesday, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg called it a landmark expansion of passenger rights, ensuring prompt refunds regardless of delay duration.

These rules cover tickets from any source and mandate refunds within seven days, in cash, for lost luggage or service failures.

Airlines must comply within six months.

Buttigieg also announces forthcoming regulations on family seating fees, wheelchair passenger rights, and transparency regarding hidden fees.
