CARIBBEAN – The joint United Nations programme on HIV/AIDS is raising the alarm over the increasing incidences of HIV among young people in the Caribbean.

UN aids says Guyana and Suriname are reporting alarming rates of 14 percent, while Barbados sees numbers as high as 37 percent.

Regional health officials say the numbers call for immediate scrutiny and action.

UNAIDS Multi-Country Director, Dr. Richard Amenyah, emphasised that despite some progress, the decline in new infections among adolescents remains sluggish.
