UNITED STATES – It was another historic matchup for Bahamas basketball when Deandre Ayton and the Los Angeles Lakers met VJ Edgecombe and the Philadelphia 76ers.

Ayton finished with a double double, 14 points and 12 rebounds, Edgecombe scored 15 with boards and the Lakers took the 112–108 win at the Xfinity Mobile Arena.

Ayton shot a 7-7 from the field, and became the first starter in franchise history to have a double double, perfect shooting night, and no turnovers.

It was the first time the Bahamian national team members have met in the NBA, and Ayton said he came away impressed with the growth of the rookie guard.

Edgecombe appeared to be released from his minutes restriction recovering from a calf strain, playing 38 minutes in the loss.

BASEBALL – Bahamas Plays For Gold Medal Tonight

It all comes down to what Team Bahamas does between the lines tonight at the Andre Rodgers stadium.

In the Caribbean Baseball Cup finale, The Bahamas will face Curacao Monday with a spot in next year’s Central American and Caribbean games on the line.

Game time is set for 7 p.m and admission is free to all.

Sunday night the team advanced with a 2-1 win over St. Marteen.

In a pitchers duel, Chavez Fernander went three and two thirds innings, and finished with four strikeouts including the final out.

Tied 1-1 after the first inning, Pheron Charlton broke through in the fifth and scored the go ahead run on a wild pitch.

First indoor meet of the season, and Zion Campbell is off to the kind of start that makes you think this year is going to be one to remember.

At the M City Classic in Minnesota, sprinter Zion Campbell lit up the track, winning the 60m in 6.59 seconds and setting a new facility record at the University Fieldhouse.

The lead-off leg of last year’s All-American 4x100m relay team, Campbell also equalled the qualifying standard in next March’s world indoor championships in Poland.
