MINNESOTA, UNITED STATES — Deandre Ayton gets a double-double, and the Lakers win. Throw in a little Austin Reaves heroics, and that’s exactly what happened last night.

Ayton notched his second double-double of the season as the Los Angeles Lakers edged the Minnesota Timberwolves 116–115 on the road.

The Bahamian big man finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds in 35 minutes, shooting an efficient 8-for-11 from the field. Dominant on both ends, Ayton blocked a Jaden McDaniels layup and altered several other shots in the paint.

His pick-and-roll execution opened scoring opportunities and helped collapse the Timberwolves’ defense, setting up Reaves’ game-winning shot.

So far this season, Ayton is averaging 16 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 62.3% shooting from the field.

Hield Remains Undefeated With Third-Round KO

Bahamian boxer Carl Hield continues to shine on the pro circuit, extending his undefeated record to 13–0–0 with a third-round knockout victory over Colombian fighter Saider Vizcaino.

The bout, part of the Night of Boxing Brawl in Colombia, saw Hield defend both his World Boxing Association (WBA) Fedecaribe Super Welterweight and National Boxing Association Latino Super Welterweight titles.

With the win, Hield not only retained his belts but also improved his regional and international standing, now listed in the WBA Fedelatin rankings for the Super Welterweight division.

Hield says he’s already focused on what’s next, preparing with R&R Sport Management for another title defense and eyeing a World Boxing Council Intercontinental Title bout. He also hopes to stage a home-soil showcase fight in The Bahamas this November.

BADC Continues Community Outreach

The Bahamas Anti-Doping Commission (BADC) continues its push to promote integrity and clean competition across the nation’s sporting landscape.

Recently, BADC representatives visited the International Elite Sports Academy, where Executive Director Petra Haven and Office Administrator Lael Johnson led an educational session for student-athletes and alumni.

The discussion focused on the Commission’s mission, protecting the integrity of sport in The Bahamas, and the importance of adhering to anti-doping regulations.

BADC plays a vital role in coordinating testing programs, conducting education sessions, and ensuring local organizations remain compliant with World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) standards.

The Commission has been active in outreach efforts, hosting seminars with swim clubs, track programs, junior athletes, and schools, as well as conducting in- and out-of-competition testing during major events.

Haven said these initiatives are part of BADC’s broader goal to instill a culture of fair play, healthy competition, and transparency throughout Bahamian sport.
