NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Bahamas Youth Flag Football League, which hosts boys and girls, saw its season come to an end yesterday with playoffs and championships in all age divisions.

This season was a special one as the league paid homage to Dominick Kikivirakis, a foundational figure in the early years of the league who passed away suddenly 7 years ago.

The playoff continued well into the day with winners getting rings, trophies, and the aforementioned commemorative coin.

But at the end of the day, it’s all about kids coming together, having fun and playing football.

Caribbean Baseball Cup

The Bahamas lost in a 2-1 heartbreaker to Curacao last night in front of a home crowd.

The hometown heroes took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Pheron Charlton drove in Daalen Adderley on a single.

Curacao would tie the game in the 5th, and take the lead the very next inning and hold on in the 6th and 7th to secure their third, breaking their tie with The Bahamas for the best record in the tournament.

With the loss, The Bahamas falls to 2-1.

Basketball

Buddy Hield got his first start of the season for the Golden State Warriors, scoring 13 points on 4-9 shooting and going 3 of 6 from long range in the dubs’ 99-94 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

There was no Steph Curry, Jimmy Butler or Draymond Green in this one, so Pat Spencer stepped up to score 19 points and dish out 7 assists to get the win.

Over in college, Deyton Albury put the squad on his back to help his New Mexico Lobos pick up a big 98-71 win over Santa Clara.

The 6’2″ guard from New Providence scored 22 points, to go with 3 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals in the win.

And Frederick King of Murray State continues to have a strong season.

The big man from South Andros had 12 points on 5-8 shooting to go with 9 rebounds in his team’s 81-68 win over Bellarmine.

And Veronaye Charlton led her Austin Peay squad with 17 points and 4 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to hold back the onslaught.

The junior guard and her squad lost 74-56 to Murray State women’s team.
