NASSAU, BAHAMAS – There has been an order for all Bahamian diplomats to leave Haiti. The order by the prime minister came into effect on Thursday.

Prime Minister Philip Davis ordered the immediate involuntary departure of all diplomatic personnel from Haiti. Prior to that, a voluntary departure order was in place.

Foreign Affairs Minister Fred Mitchell says currently there are seven Bahamian diplomats who have been extracted from Haiti, and are now safely in the Dominican Republic.

Noting that the measure is also temporary, the Foreign Affairs minister says there are still plans in place to add more manpower and setup another office.

Minister Mitchell noted that there were also five Bahamians who landed in Haiti on a Bahamasair flight who were unable to leave the airport but explained that they are all safe.
