UNITED STATES – Familiar faces in new places, from JUCO to grad transfers, several Bahamian players are looking to make a fresh start this season as the NCAA Division I basketball season tips off.
Let’s get started with several senior men’s national team members:
Donnie Freeman returns for his highly touted sophomore season and the Syracuse Orange open their season at home against the Binghamton Bearcats tonight.
AJ Storr is at his fourth program in as many seasons. He begins his senior campaign tonight with Ole Miss as they host Southeastern Louisiana.
Deyton Albury is also with a new program. His New Mexico Lobos tip off their season on Wednesday, November 5 at home against East Texas A&M.
Fredrick King and the Murray State Racers went head to head with Valentino Simon and the Omaha Mavericks this afternoon. King transferred to the Racers after spending three years at Creighton while Simon looks to assume a larger role in the Mavs lineup coming off last year’s NCAA tournament appearance.
Romad Dean moved on from Fordham to the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. They open their season tonight against Oklahoma Christian.
Adena Webster made the move from Temple to Monmouth and the Hawks opened their season tonight against Chestnut Hill College.
A Bahamian duo looks to revamp FIU basketball. Rhema Collins transferred from Ole Miss, Denika Lightbourne transferred from Dayton, and both now call the South Florida campus home. FIU opens the season against Florida National tonight.
Making the move from D-II to D-I, Paul Greene and the UMBC Retrievers open their season against Penn State York Tuesday night.
Let’s take a look at JUCO talents making the transition to D-I.
Now with the Ohio Bobcats, Antonicia Moultrie’s squad also open their season tonight against the other Bobcats from Texas State.
Brent Moss transferred to UTSA Roadrunners and they open their campaign against the College of Biblical Studies on Wednesday.
Brandon Oloumou and the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders will open their season against Milligan Wednesday morning.
VJ Edgecombe Shines as 76ers Continue Hot Start
VJ Edgecombe and the Philadelphia 76ers were back in the win column.
They continued their strong start to the season, improving to 5-1 with last night’s 129-105 win over the Brooklyn Nets.
He finished with 16 points, 3 assists, and three steals.
The 76ers lead the Atlantic and are currently tied atop the Eastern Conference standings with the Chicago Bulls.
Meanwhile, Deandre Ayton sat out last night’s Los Angeles Lakers win over the Miami Heat due to back spasms and no timetable has been set for his return.
The Lakers lead the Pacific and are third in the West at 5-2.
The University of The Bahamas Mingoes men’s soccer and women’s volleyball teams got wins to continue their successful start to the season.
In the men’s soccer league, the Mingoes edged Renegades FC 2-1 on goals from Ronaldo Green and Sidney Decius.
The 2–0 Mingoes will face Dynamos FC on November 19 at the Roscow A.L. Davies Soccer Fields.
In New Providence Volleyball Association action, the UB Mingoes women team defeated the Lady Technicians for their first win of the season.
Final score 25-17, 25-11, 16-25, and 25-15.
Team captain Anjeniker Joseph led the way with nine points, including four kills and an ace.
UB will be back on court November 19 against Setsy Poppers at the D.W. Davis Gymnasium.
