U.S.A. – The NCAA Division I basketball season is weeks away from tip-off and according to the Associated Press (AP), several Bahamians will be featured among the top programs in the nation.
The AP released its top 25 men’s poll for the upcoming season. Three Bahamian players and one coach saw their team listed as a few of the favorites to make a run in march.
Highlighting that list, a familiar face in a new place – AJ Storr and the number one overall Kansas Jayhawks.
Storr, in his first season with the jayhawks, enters the big 12 powerhouse as one of the most sought after transfers in the country.
He averaged 16.8 points per game for the wisconsin badgers.
Coming in at number eight, freshman sensation VJ Edgecombe and another big 12 powerhouse, the Baylor Bears.
Edgecombe headlines a stacked class for the bears and his summer was highlighted by his senior national team debut where he averaged 16.5 points per game in the olympic qualifier.
At number 15, is Frederick King and the Creighton Blue Jays.
King returned to the blue jays after briefly entering the transfer portal.
At number 23, Mikhail McLean roaming the sidelines as an assistant coach for the kentucky wildcats.
Mclean is in his first season with the wildcats after beginning his career with the houston cougars and moving on to lamar university.
MLB
Antoan Richardson and the New York Mets evened the National League Divisional Series.
The Mets took full advantage of the Los Angeles Dodgers sending relievers in for a bullpen game and won 7 – 3.
The Mets also stopped the dodgers’ record-tying postseason scoreless streak at 33 consecutive innings.
Meanwhile, Jazz Chisholm Jr is still struggling through a slump at the plate but his New York Yankees continue to roll.
New York opened the American League Championship series with a 5-2 win over the Cleveland Guardians Sunday night at Yankee Stadium.
Chisholm went 0-4 and has just two hits in the playoffs thus far.
New York will host game two tonight at Yankee Stadium.
NBA
Kai Jones continues to be a standout performer for the L.A. Clippers in the NBA preseason.
He finished with 12 points and 6 rebounds in the Clippers’ 110-96 win over the Dallas Mavericks Sunday night.
Through four games, Jones has averaged 9.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.
Baseball
Kristian Robinson homered in his Arizona fall league debut.
Playing for the Salt River Rafters, the 23-year-old outfielder went 2-5 with a home run, two RBI and scored two runs in his teams 14-1 win over the Surprise Saguaros.
The Rafters roster features prospects from the Arizona Diamondbacks, Colorado Rockies, Minnesota Twins, New York Yankees, and Washington Nationals
Robinson, once Arizona’s no. 1 prospect, spent the entire year in aa with the Amarillo Sod Poodles.
He ended the year with a .214/.337/.350 slash line, 11 home runs and 10 steals.
