NASSAU, BAHAMAS – An amendment to the Bail Act will automatically revoke bail for anyone committing a serious offense who is already on bail.

Prime Minister Philip Davis brought the amendment to Parliament amid a rising crime wave.

While careful to acknowledge bail is a constitutional right, that ought not to be abused.

These amendments come following Police Commissioner Clayton Fernander’s call for a review of the law.

As case after case shows murder victims on bail or suspects arrested for new crime while out on bail.

It’s the prime minister’s hope this now sends a stern message.

With 17 murders already for the year the government is now forced to provide answers. One remedy is expanding school policing.

This means more police officers in schools as a way to build relationships.

Also on the crime agenda is curbing drug trafficking.
