BBA HS Nationals Take Center Stage This Weekend

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Stakeholders, coaches, players, and league executives hosted a press conference to launch the Bahamas Baseball Association’s inaugural National High School Baseball Championships, January 2nd-4th, 2026, at the Andre Rodgers National Baseball Stadium and the Blue Hills Sporting Complex.

10th Year Seniors

The three-day event will bring together top senior school programs for interleague play, providing a national platform for competition, talent identification and program growth.

In this first edition, 10 schools from both the Government Secondary Schools Sports Association (GSSA) and the Bahamas Association of Independent Secondary Schools (BAISS) will face off.

Participating schools include the C.I. Gibson Rattlers, C.R. Walker Knights, Anatol Rodgers T’wolves and C.V. Bethel Stingrays from the GSSSA, and from the BAISS – SAC Big Red Machine, St. Andrew’s Hurricanes, St. John’s Giants, Kingsway Saints and C.W. Saunders Cougars.

The nationals are designed to serve as both a competitive showcase, and a strategic step toward strengthening the high school pipeline, and formalizing a national championship structure for the sport.

Hield Faces Declining Role Amid Trade Rumors

Buddy Hield’s role with the Golden State Warriors continues to decline, and with a logjam at the position, pundits are speculating whether his time in the Bay may be coming to an end.

Hield has experienced sharp fluctuations in his court time all season, including recent games where he was either used sparingly or left out of the rotation entirely, ending a 199-game consecutive games played streak despite being healthy.

He played just 11 minutes Monday night in the Warriors’ 120-107 win over the Brooklyn Nets.

On the season he’s scoring 7.5 points, shooting 32 percent from three, and grabbing 2.5 rebounds in 17.6 minutes per game – all career lows.

The reduced role comes as the Warriors hovered around .500, and have experimented with lineups.

12 Warriors got at least 10 minutes on the floor in last night’s win.

As the trade deadline approaches, his situation has drawn league-wide attention as an expiring contract, and a track record as one of the league’s best shooters.

Hunter Making Impact In Austria

Sammy Hunter is having a solid impact in his first season with BC Vienna in Austria.

Through 10 games in the Austrian Basketball SuperLiga, he’s averaging 7.6 points and 4.9 rebounds per game, shooting 45 percent from the field.

Vienna has won the Austrian championship twice (2013 and 2022), and are also 2-7 in the region’s Adriatiac Basketball Association’s first division this season.
