NASSAU, BAHAMAS – For many, giving and getting gifts is the best part about Christmas, and for Pamela Storr, bread baking is the gift that keeps on giving year round.

During my trip to San Salvador, I visited whom many consider the best bread baker on the island.

A sweet aroma coming out of the small bakery just outside of her home greeting us.

A baker for many years, it’s a skill Pamela has learnt from her grandmother.

After washing my hands, Pamela began to teach me the art of bread making. First starting with the ingredients.

With this, I begun to knead the dough. Something I struggled with.

Then it’s on to the oven where the bread will bake for about an hour.

With the dough that’s left over, Pamela likes to make a special treat.

Pamela makes around 16 loaves along with rolls everyday. The product of her labor is island wide.

She’s encouraging more youth to try bread baking.
