CHINA – China is deepening ties with Latin America, pledging nearly $9.2 billion in credit and more investment in the region.

At the China-CELAC Forum in Beijing, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said China will import more high-quality goods and align development strategies with Latin American nations.

The forum, which is being seen as a counter to longstanding U.S. influence in the region, comes just after a positive round of U.S.-China trade talks.

President Xi Jinping met with regional leaders Tuesday, signaling Beijing’s growing interest in the Western Hemisphere.
