NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A convicted child rapist has had three years knocked off his 15-year sentence after an appeals court found the original sentence excessive.

The 31-year-old offender, who was identified in court by the initials WG, received the sentence after a trial in 2023.

The man was convicted of the statutory rape of a  14-year-old girl who lived in his neighborhood.

According to the evidence, the convict was a trusted family friend who often walked his victim to the bus stop.

WG had intercourse with the minor at her request, the court heard.

However, she could not give consent because she was under the age of 16.

WG was represented by Public Defender Stanley Rolle.
