NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A man convicted in the 2003 murder of a 12-year-old boy was back in the Court of Appeal for resentencing.

In September, the Privy Council ordered the resentencing of Roger Watson, who’s serving 50 years for the fatal shooting of Eddison Curtis-Johnson.

Watson was initially sentenced to death for the crime in 2007. But when he appealed his conviction and sentence in 2009, the Court of Appeal quashed the murder conviction and substituted it with one of manslaughter.

The appellate court resentenced Watson to 50 years behind bars without getting any input from his lawyer.

The Privy Council said that this was wrong.

Watson didn’t have a lawyer for the hearing, and one will have to be appointed for him.

He returns to court on December 5 for the appointment of counsel.

Watson fired an assault rifle into the wooden home occupied by the child as a result of a feud he had with the boy’s stepfather.

Eddison, who was watching TV in the living room, was shot in the head.
