CUBA – For the first time since the 1959 revolution, Cuba’s private sector is outselling the state in retail.

New government data shows private businesses accounted for 55% of retail sales this year, up from 44% in 2023.

The shift comes amid a shrinking state economy, blackouts, and shortages.

Private vendors are reportedly filling the gaps, though at higher prices.

The government says it won’t oppose the growing sector but will work to better regulate it.
