Daxon Signs UFA Deal With Dallas Cowboys

U.S.A. – Denzel Daxon did not hear his name called on NFL Draft night but will still have an opportunity to compete for a roster spot.

Daxon was signed by the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent as the NFC East contender looks to fill out its roster.

Daxon may have a unique opportunity to earn that roster spot.

The NFL announced the expansion of the practice squad for all 32 teams to include one international player.

Daxson, a 6’2 325 pound defensive lineman completed his collegiate career with Illinois.

Last season at Illinois he started 11 games at nose tackle and more than doubled his career output in one season in champaign, with 27 tackles.

Baseball

While Jazz Chisholm is living up to his reputation in the majors, Sebatian Walcott is building one of his own in the minors.

The Miami Marlins continue to struggle with the worst record in the MLB, and not even Jazz’s Chisholm’s offense was enough Sunday afternoon.

Chisholm blasted a grand slam in the first inning to give the Marlins a 4-0 lead. 

It was his third home run of the season and fifth grand slam of his career.

They led by as much as seven runs before that lead disappeared and they lost 12-9 to the Washington Nationals at Loan Depot Park in Miami.

The Marlins centerfielder is hitting .245 with 15 rbi, 5 stolen bases and a .724 ops.

Walcott, the 18-year-old Texas Rangers prospect, hit his first home run at the high-a level for the Hickory Crawdads.

Walcott homered to left field in the Crawdads’ 5-4 loss to the Asheville Tourists Saturday night.

Over the last seven games, he’s 8-25 at the plate with a triple and a home run.

NBA

In the NBA playoffs, Eric Gordon and the Phoenix Suns were eliminated while Buddy Hield and 76ers’  look to stay alive in game five.

Gordon scored six off the bench in the suns’ 122-116 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves  at the Footprint Center in Phoenix Sunday night.

The T’wolves completed the four game sweep and will advance to face the winner of the Nuggets/Lakers series.

In his first season in Phoenix, the 15 year veteran averaged 11 points per game in 68 games with 24 starts.

Buddy Hield and the Philadelphia 76ers continue to struggle offensively and fell 97-92 to the New York Knicks Sunday afternoon at the Wells Fargo center in Philadelphia, 

They now trail the best of seven series three games to one.

He received a “dnp” in game four, after logging just 11 minutes in game one, 15 minutes in game two, and four minutes in game three.

Philadelphia will look to extend the series in game five on tuesday at madison square garden in new york.

Kai jones and the los angeles clippers tied their series with the dallas mavericks at two games apiece with a 116-111 win.

Game five is wednesday night in Los Angeles.

Track and Field

Bahamian student athletes are producing season’s best performances on a weekly basis as the NCAA outdoor season regular season comes to an end.

Denisha Cartwright has dominated Division II but proved at the Drake Relays that she can get it done against anyone.

The Minnesota State Mankato senior just narrowly missed the Olympic qualifying mark in the 100 meter hurdles.

She ran a wind aided 12.71 seconds well under the olympic standard of 12.77, however the wind rating was .01 too high. For the time to officially stand.

Cartwright has the second fastest time in the ncaa and the second fastest time in Division II, all-time.

Also at the Drake Relays, Nebraska Cornhuskers senior, Rhema Otabor, took first place in the women’s javelin with a throw of 59.12 meters.

At the LSU Invitational in Baton Rouge, Florida Gators Anthaya Charlton continues to strengthen her 2024 resume in the long jump. 

She posted a new pr of 6.74 meters to finish first.
