NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Government has signed off on a new DNA testing protocol to verify citizenship status. Breaking the news of the significant milestone was Minister of Health and Wellness Dr. Micheal Darville who says his ministry finalized the paperwork last week.

This comes after a Privy Council ruling in May of 2023 declared people born out of wedlock to Bahamian men are Bahamians at birth regardless of their mother’s nationality.

The move comes amidst growing concerns over accuracy of the testing, immediately following the ruling.

Dr. Darville asserted while the process is not one hundred percent fraud proof, he gave this assurance that measures will be taken to prevent such incidents.

In the case where a father is deceased Dr. Darville says there are ways around that.
