HAITI – Cholera treatment units have been opened by the humanitarian group Doctors Without Borders to provide urgent care to patients suffering from cholera.

The center opened in the MSF Hospital in City Solei and receives around 40 patients a day – 200 in all – since the cholera surge.

The surge in cases is paralyzed by a gang blockage triggering shortages of fuel and clean drinking water.

The Pan American Health Organization confirms 19 cholera deaths so far.

The disease killed 10,000 people in 2010.
