DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – The Dominican Republic is on alert tonight as Tropical Storm Melissa moves southwest of the country.

The storm is sitting about 485 kilometers from Haiti, and its slow movement is expected to drench the region with heavy rain for at least five more days.
The Emergency Operations Center has placed eight provinces and the national district on red alert.
Families in vulnerable areas have been evacuated.
