NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The biggest local celebration of Bahamian baseball culture is back this week. On Wednesday, the Don’t Blink organization kicked off the festivities with their annual youth baseball camp at the Andre Rodgers National Stadium.

More than 300 kids attended, marking the largest turnout in the camp’s eight-year history.

The week of events will wrap up with “The Greatest Show on Sand,” the Don’t Blink Home Run Derby in Paradise, set for Saturday at 1 p.m. on Montague Beach.

The University of The Bahamas also had a strong week across volleyball and basketball. The UB women’s volleyball team earned a win in New Providence Volleyball Association play, defeating the Ballers 25-18, 19-25 and 25-20. They close out the year with a matchup against the Lady Aces at the D.W. Davis Gym.

On the basketball court, the UB men’s team beat the Airport Authority Avengers 75-58. UB led wire-to-wire, building on a 20-13 first-quarter lead and a 37-31 advantage at the half. Kevaro Russell continued his standout season with a 25-point performance to power a dominant second half for the Mingoes.

A rising football talent is also making headlines. DJ Darling, a three-sport athlete and the son of a former Bahamian football standout, has officially signed his letter of intent to join the University of New Mexico Lobos.

At Ridge Point High School in Texas, Darling excelled as both a receiver and return specialist. In his senior year, he recorded 24 catches for 569 yards and nine touchdowns, averaging an impressive 23.7 yards per reception.
