GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – Holland America Line’s Nieuw Statendam making its inaugural voyage to Grand Bahama.

The arrival of the mega ship expected to have a major impact on that island’s tourism product.

A plaque exchange making it official, as Grand Bahama Island welcomed over 2,300 passengers and 1,000 crew members on board the luxury vessel.

Holland America Line Captain, Noel O’Drischoll says the ship’s normal ports of call includes destinations like Half Moon Cay and Grand Turk, explaining that the Grand Bahama voyage was a detour.

Minister for Grand Bahama, Ginger Moxey, on hand to welcome the ship.

She says discussions continue in hopes of increasing cruise calls to Grand Bahama, while stressing the importance of ensuring that the tourism product is up to par.

Cruise passenger Mark Delaurier and his wife jody, say they love The Bahamas.

It is anticipated that the ship will make a call again to Grand Bahama next year.
