GB Man Killed After Industrial Accident

GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – A Grand Bahama man is dead following an industrial accident at Executive Marina Management at the Freeport Harbour, Tuesday morning.

Police tell Our News the young man was electrocuted around 11am. When Our News arrived on the scene a man’s body could be seen lying on the road.

He was in his work clothing and next to tractor.

Press Liaison Officer for the Northern Division ASP Stephen Rolle said the man, who was in his late 20s, was pronounced dead by emergency responders at the scene.

The Grand Bahama Power Company as well as other government agencies were on the scene making assessments to the electrical wires in the area.

We spoke to David Mellor, President of Executive Marina Management, where the victim is employed.

He says the employee accidentally extended the forks on the machine, causing it to hit the power lines.

Mellor says going forward additional safety measures will be put in place. He said the incident is a huge blow for the Executive Marina Management team and a meeting will be held for employees on Wednesday.
