GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – After months of protests and frustration from the Grand Bahama Community, The Grand Bahama Port Authority confirmed in a statement on Monday.

It has suspended its review of The Grand Bahama Power Company’s proposed rate plan, filed on August 1st.

This suspension will remain in effect until service reliability is firmly established.

For months, the island has been grappling with frequent power outages, some lasting more than five hours at a time.

Richard Johnson, President of the GB Power Gotta Go Organization, who led several recent protests against the power company, is celebrating this decision by the port authority.

He commends the people of Grand Bahama for standing up for their rights and believes this is a significant step in the right direction by the GBPA.

Grand Bahama Resident David Carey also expressed his satisfaction with the suspension of the review, stating that the service provided by the power company is deplorable.

Resident and businessman Steve Maingot says the delay of the review gives the regulator more time to understand what the problem is.

He says in his opinion the power rates are higher than what they should be.
