GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – The Grand Bahama Utility company has made an official application to the Grand Bahama Port Authority for a rate adjustment on water prices.

The chief operating officer of the Grand Bahama Utility Company Philcher Grant-Adderley says she understands residents’ concerns but explains the reason for the application.

Grant-Adderley says the utility company was impacted severely by Hurricane Dorian and while they are cognizant of how that major storm affected residents on the island.

She says since 2019, they’ve spent over 15 million dollars in Hurricane Dorian recovery costs.

Grant-Adderley says Hurricane Dorian took away 60 percent of the islands water supply.

And, to manage the diminished water supply, the COO says they’ve been running water at a lower pressure to conserve which some customers have been frustrated by.

She confirmed that 40 percent of customers who currently use 2,000 gallons or less will not see an increase.

As for others she says on average they will see an increase of $8 on thier monthly bills.
