GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – The Sir Charles Hayward Public Library stands as a historic landmark in Freeport and serves as a hub for the community, with hundreds of residents visiting weekly.

Chairman Geneva Rutherford explains the building once housed the library for the Rand Memorial Hospital. It was later donated to Sir Jack Hayward, a founding member of the Grand Bahama Port Authority and was renamed in honor of his father, Sir Charles Hayward.

At present, the library receives $2,000 annually from The Bahamas Library Association.

The chairman says the first decision made was to move the library into the  technological era..

But she explains further how the Port Authority helps to sustain the library, ensuring it remains available to the public.
