NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A government employee has denied trying  to illegally stop automatic loan payments.

Prosecutors said Leashand Cash, 48, a janitress at the Department of Environmental Service, on September 26, 2022, brought a forged letter to her job, which authorized the cancellation of salary deduction payments to Sunshine Finance.

On the same day, she is accused of attempting to defraud the Department of Environmental Service $1,345, the amount of the deduction.

Cash pleaded not guilty to charges of possession of a forged document, uttering a forged document and attempted fraud at her arraignment before Magistrate Kendra Kelly.

She was granted $4,000 bail, pending her trial which is scheduled to begin on February 15, 2023.
