CAT ISLAND, BAHAMAS – Prime Minister Philip Davis breaking ground on a new airport for Cat Island but it seems funding hasn’t been secured.

As for the price tag? It could run into the millions.

Cat Islanders attended the ground breaking for a much anticipated airport for the island on Thursday.

While he’s expecting the new terminal to be completed in about 18 months, Prime Minister Davis says it could cost up to $17m.

The funding will come from borrowing among other measures.

The prime minister says the contracts have gone out to bid and he’s expecting the process will soon wrap up.

The New Bight Airport is just one of the Family Island airports the Davis administration is looking to construct.

The hope is the airport will attract investments for the island.

PM Davis expects the airport to he completed in two years. It will also be solar powered.
