NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Firearms are used in 90 percent of violent crimes in the country, according to Commissioner of Police Clayton Fernander.

His comments come during The Bahamas Customs Small Arms and Light Weapons Training Opening Ceremony held recently at police headquarters.

The commissioner says so far this year, 329 firearms were recovered by police.

Commissioner Fernander says the training is timely as the RBPF will officially launch the firearms and anti-gang task force unit in less than two weeks to tackle the issue of illegal weapons and gang violence.
