GUYANA – A commission of inquiry (COI) into Guyana’s disputed 2020 regional and general election has found three former senior officials of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) attempted to “derail and corrupt” the process of certifying the votes.

Chairman of the Inquiry (COI), retired Justice of Appeal, Stanley John handed over the report to President, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali yesterday.

The COI report said former Chief Election Officer (CEO) Keith Lowenfield, Deputy Chief Election Officer (DCEO) Roxanne Myers, and returning officer (RO) Clairmont Mingo made what was described as “shockingly brazen attempts…for the purpose of stealing the election” in favor of a partnership for national unity + alliance for change (apnu+afc) government.

The vote rigging took place in region four, which is Guyana’s most populous district.

Lowenfield, Myers, Mingo, and former public Health Minister Volda Lawrence are currently before the court facing fraud charges.
