NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A quarter of the country’s workforce is on the lower end of the pay scale, according to Labor Director Robert Farquharson who revealed an estimated 25% of employed residents are making minimum wage.

Farquharson’s revelation comes a week after Prime Minister Philip Davis announced in a national address that minimum wage would be increased to $260 a week in both the public and private sector.

There has been push back from some in the business community who say it will add to the already high cost of doing business.
