NASSAU, BAHAMAS – An engineer of a luxury yacht accused of killing a fellow crew member pleaded not guilty during his first appearance before a Supreme Court judge.

Thirty-nine-year-old Brigido Lara Muñoz is charged with the murder of 20-year-old Paige Bell.

Prosecutors allege that Munoz slit Bell’s throat in the engine room of “Far From It” on July 3, while the chartered yacht was moored at Harbour Island before he cut his wrists in a suicide attempt.

Bell, a South African, worked as a stewardess on the yacht.

Muñoz denied the murder charge at his arraignment before Justice Guillimina Archer-Minns.

He next appears before Justice Archer-Minns on January 21 to learn his trial date.
