NASSAU, BAHAMAS – We often hear about the importance of mangroves, but The Bahamas National Trust is encouraging Bahamians to get in the water and see it for themselves.

When you think of kayaking, some may think of white-water rafting, but we’ve got something arguably prettier, and a lot safer here at home: mangrove kayaking.

BNT’s Senior Communications Officer Elijah Sands, let us do just that at the Bonefish Pond National Park.

He says seeing it for yourself makes all the difference.

And you get a quick course on kayaking before the tour begins.

We quickly started spotting wildlife as we started the journey, with Elijah’s guidance being equal parts wildlife spotter, stand up comedian, and historian.

Our mini-tour only took about an hour, and in that time it’s easy to forget you’re only minutes away from some of the countries busiest areas.
