UNITED STATES – University of Kentucky Assistant Basketball Coach, Mikhail McLean, is reflecting on what he calls one of the most meaningful chapters of his career, coaching The Bahamas National Basketball Team.

Over the past three years, the team has been on a historic run, claiming victory in multiple tournaments and coming within one game of qualifying for the Olympic Games last year. McLean says it all began to take shape two years ago during preparation for the Olympic qualifiers.

That preparation proved invaluable, as the team went on to defeat one of the world’s top-ranked squads twice in just three days, earning them a coveted shot at the Olympics.

McLean, now a familiar face among NBA players and coaches, says his time with the national team has sharpened his skills and left him more prepared than ever to coach at basketball’s highest levels.

As for what’s next, McLean has a packed summer ahead. He’ll continue helping Team Bahamas gear up for the FIBA AmeriCup and World Cup qualifiers, all while assisting the University of Kentucky in getting ready for next season.

And of course, we’ll keep you updated every step of the way.

Jonquel Jones and the New York Liberty Keep Winning

Sticking with hoops, Bahamian star Jonquel Jones and her New York Liberty teammates are making waves in the WNBA, remaining unbeaten on the season.

The Liberty rolled past the Washington Mystics with a dominant 85-63 win, improving their record to a perfect 6-0. Jones was a force, putting up 14 points and pulling down a season-high 18 rebounds. She also recorded two blocks and two steals, anchoring the defense.

Sabrina Ionescu exploded for 28 points and dished out 5 assists, helping seal the win. Brittney Sykes led the Mystics with 20 points in a losing effort.

The Liberty has had a jam-packed schedule, already facing the Golden State Valkyries twice this week and meeting the Mystics again on Friday night. After a brief rest, they’ll be back in action on Sunday against Jonquel’s former team, the Connecticut Sun.
