NASSAU, BAHAMAS – June 1st marks the start of the 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season and a local meteorologist says over the past few years hurricanes have intensified.

He is telling Bahamians, now is the time to prepare.

Meteorologist and Author Wanye Neely says more and more storms are appearing each hurricane season adding that Bahamians should not take these storms lightly

A below level hurricane season is predicted with 13 storms anticipated, six of which may become major hurricanes.

But instead of being afraid of storms, he says the best thing to do is to prepare ahead of time.

The first step, he says, is to begin purchasing food

Neely says it’s important for people to listen to information about storms from reputable news agencies in the country and the Bahamas Department of Meteorology.
