NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Works and Utilities Minister Alfred Sears took the floor in Parliament yesterday to outline Bahamas Power and Light’s dire financial position.

Speaking candidly, Sears said they are on the edge of the financial cliff.

The Minister gave the explanation as he outlined why power bills will be increasing next month.

On Monday, Prime Minister Philip Davis announced consumers will see an increase in their November power bills.

Given the state of the power company’s finances, Sears said the move can no longer be delayed.

He says the fuel hedging strategy implemented under the former administration was no longer an option.
