NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A mother is behind bars facing child abuse charges, who is accused of assaulting the infant in their Wulff Road home.

Her neighbors telling Our News she allegedly threw the baby across a room and they intervened after hearing the baby’s screams.

The incident allegedly occurred at a home on Palm Avenue off Wulff Road Sunday afternoon.

Video obtained by Our News shows a woman being carried away in handcuffs.

Neighbors, who called the police, spoke to me this morning claiming they’d called police after they allegedly stopped her from abusing her baby, who they say is only a few months old.

Still shaken up by what they witnessed, the neighbors say it’s the first time something like this has happened.

They say the mom had just moved in and was not well-known in the community.

Neighbors say the baby was taken from the scene by officers.

So what happens next in cases like these?

In an interview last week, the Department of Social Services Assistant Director Gabrielle Romer told Our News about the process.

“Often times children of that character or that characteristic we normally place them in protective care . We have to place them and they are sheltered at one of our residential care facilities or family members willing to take those children in we normally place them with family members because we do believe children should be with their families,” Romer said.

Lately there’ve been several child-related incidents that have caused public outrage.

Most recently, a fetus was found floating in a plastic bag near Ocean Cay Estates.
